Have a look at places like summit racing for "electric shifters". They are solenoids that attach to a ratchet style shifter (B&M, Hurst, etc) for drag racing. There are pneumatic versions (air shifters) as well. They are hooked up to work on engine speed so that they hit the shifter with a constant force at when the engine reaches a set rpm. It may not be exactly what you need but it will give you an idea of the size solenoid and current requirements.
