What I've heard is that the movie is radically different than
the book, or the TV series, or the radio series. It is (yet
again) a reasonably new entity.
Do note that the screenplay was completely written (and is
largely as he wrote it) by DA himself. This doesn't mean
that it isn't completely different, just that we can expect the
same level of quality. And up to his death, DA had a heavy
influence in the pre-creative processes that resulted in this
film.
It'll be good, I'm sure, but nothing a "purist" would approve
of. Jinx, you may not know, but the third series recently
aired on BBC Radio was almost a word-for-word reading
of the third book; at least, as I remember it. I haven't read
them in a while.
