Well, Ritchie and company had 'B' on some monster processor at Bell (some
kind of GE mainframe I think).  Seems to me that when they were going to
loose that system, part of the point of C was to work around limitations in
this PDP thingie that they were going to be stuck with.

I keep reading about this history because it is fascinating, but at my
advanced age I have too many other things cluttering up the brain cells so
the details disappear quickly <g>
