HP is a lot different now, in ways I don't particularly like, but there is also Agilent, and you might argue that DEC, for instance, stuck to their old ways much more stubbornly than HP did, and look what that got them! Fiorina was a strong leader and stuck to her vision of how things should be. Which I think is what one wants from a CEO, even if you don't approve of her vision. It's easy to see the ways her policies seem to have hurt HP, but it's entirely impossible to say what would have happened with different policies.
