My own experience with CFL's for the past couple of years at home has been good, with one exception. I have had up to four at a time in a (poorly vented) bathroom, where they only last a few months. I suspect the humidity kills them, so I've went back to incandescent there. I have also started writing the install date on the base of the CFL bulbs. Very useful spreadsheet. Gives me the urge to purge any other incandescents I can find.
