While the above is related to making of gaming miniature models it has 
much useful comment on small size metal castings in general.

I have a friend interested in spin casting. Spin casting is a lowish 
cost process .which allows low pressure casting using centrifugal 
force in place of mechanical or hydraulic pressure techniques. An 
enthusiastic amateur could build their own spin caster for very 
little.
