    It's been done, sorta... The "Twiggy" floppy drives that Apple
    designed for the Lisa had two heads on opposite sides of the spindle
    (12:00 and 6:00).  The difference from your concept was that one head
    was on the top surface of the disk and the other was on the bottom
    (so it was just a very unusual double-sided disk), but the floppies
    had two slots on each side, so Apple presumably had plans to evolve
    the Twiggy into a 4-head drive.
