The Xylene gets out of the paint within 20 seconds by evaporation and it does not seem to be able to reach the dye through the backing during that time. My marker is Sanford brand. I have used it for years now. The writable backing of not-of-the-cheapest-kind media seems to work well like this. No failures so far.
