Fortunately, a lot of this data becomes obsolete over the years. Also, media changes and advances. The biggest mistake would be to do what nasa did early on, and let data sit on tapes and never move it forward. Apparently they have tons of data now, that nobody makes equipment to read, and nobody knows how to interpret if they could read it. :-P Just mark an "expiration date" on your important data, and before that time, copy over to the latest and greatest media, and then make a determination on the next expiration date.
