Which invalidates all the arguments against Word in the paragraph above... :) Besides, you don't need a validation server to get Windows and Word installed and working. And a license you should have had when you created the files. And so far, newer versions of the program have been able to re= ad older versions of the files, so you don't need Word 2 to read those files created with Word 2. I've lost some minor data due to "original program gone", but I haven't lost any Word data so far -- and I'm using it since Word 5 for DOS.
