The original poster is talking about art, and is willing to have other people do some or all of the actual engineering. I think the best comparison is probably stagecraft. there's a hell of a lot of engineering in set construction, lighting and costuming (to mention just a few) that aren't done by either playwrights or directors; they're just delegated to other experts.
