While this may have some (still dubious) grounds in countries with highly industrialized agriculture, think about the large number of (semi) analphabet farmers in the poorer countries -- who are who feed the masses of the "hunger crisis" the GM foods are supposed to solve. That's similar to the pharma companies that spend billions to extinguish the placebo effect from their results -- when any sane mind would think that it is exactly the placebo effect one would want to optimize.
