I did a year at RPI and if Troy isn't the armpit of the universe it
sure comes close.  Unfortunately I was very unimpressed with the
undergrad program at the time I was there in 1986.  I selected RPI
based on the strength of their undergrad program, but my info was out
of date, and when I got there I found they were concentrating at the
graduate level, and the undergrad departments were seriously
suffering.  I decided to complete my degree at a local school and then
perhaps go back to RPI for my masters but that never happened.  :( I'm
certain the graduate program is still very good, but if you are
considering an undergrad degree from RPI I'd be sure to talk with some
students who have graduated more recently.
