Canada has just reported another case of "mad cow disease" (BSE) http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/12/international/americas/12canada.html?th BSE is believed to be spread by using feed which contained infected mattrer from other cattle. (Brains, spinal cords, retinas). BUT prior canadian SE outbreaks were from cows born before late 1997, when the practice of feeding potentially infected material was banned. This cow was born since that ban. People who really want this to not mean anything terrible say that the feed used was probably made prior to the 1997 ban. They may be right. The latest infected cow was born in March 1998. As a race we don't seem to learn much about really really serious things sometimes. The more so when profit may be impacted by learning. With CJD/BSE type diseases the learning can take decades. RM -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
