Simply speaking, there is 3 classes of network Ip's which
are not accessible from any "hostile" network.
So, if you somebody has 192.168.xx you will never get to this address
from, let say, 212.109.blah-blah, even though they are connected
directly to the Internet. However, from 192.168 (or 10.xxx) you
will be able to connect to any usual IP.
That's according to definition of IP protocol (RFC)

If Windows File and Printer Sharing is implemented behind a firewall router,
is this a security risk?

I have two computers, one printer, and a home network on a Linksys firewall
router.  File and Printer sharing is enabled to allow both computers to
print.  So far neither computer is set up to share it's files, although that
would of course be an option.  Each computer of course has it's own software
firewall and virus software and Windoze security holes is updated regularly.

How secure is such an arrangement?
