Russell McMahon 00:43 2004-12-28: >>http://openoffice.org > >I tried open office a while ago, and last week I installed it on a PC for someone else. A quick play then suggested that it lacks functionality compared to MS office out of the box. I imagine that you can get everything you want if you know what to look for. I think so too... it was years since i used MSO. OOo It is *not* a clone, so it does things differently, the shortcuts and menyes are a bit different etc. Some years ago I educated a class in MSO97 and Staroffice5, and it seemed them equally easy to navigate, but Staroffice was definately easier to navigate in the settings. Theese pupils was not used to either. Also, OOo has one thing we do not find in MSOffice, which i have started to use: the Draw part, nice vector drawing tool, can be used as simple 2D Cad, good for sketching ideas, (plus making posters etc of course...) Then that one button pdf generation that is found only in expensive MSO veriosns is nice when you want to mail it. OOo 2 will come in spring, i am playing with a pre beta version. Looks good. /Morgan -- Morgan Olsson, Kivik, Sweden -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
