Just when you thought you were up with the latest technology :-) "Toshiba plans to stop manufacturing and selling plasma display panel (PDP) TVs in Japan by next summer, and then discontinue the products in other markets after that. The company will instead focus on surface-conduction electron-emitter display (SED) TVs, according to the Japan-based Jiji Press News, as quoted by Bloomberg." http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20041227A3014.html A SED is effectively a flat cathode ray tube. Electrons (tunnel a)cross a small 'horizontal' gap under potentials of typically only 10 to 20 volts. Scattered electrons are accelerated across a "vertical" gap by a typically 10 kV potential to excite a phosphor. There is one emitter per pixel.
