A Bridgeport J-head mill is the way to go.  $12-1500 used without a
DRO.  Get the belt-speed change type, the variable speed drives bust
too easily and are expensive to repair.

2k lbs, you'll need a fork truck to get i off a flatbed.  Also most are
wired 220/3/60, but I'm sure you mad scientists can figure out a way to
get that out of your residential wiring.
