Up the curiousity factor!) In my PLC class, the students put their brick PLCs into a wide variety of boxes. Anything from NEMA enclosures to typical digikey project boxes. I thought I had seen just about every possible variation until one guy brought his PLC enclosed inside a Tupperware style box. He could see through the lid and watch all the LEDs on the PLC and in addition he had switches and LEDs mounted in the cover. It was also one of the worst wiring jobs I've seen, but it worked. Picture the snake pit from one of the Indiana Jones movies with a PLC brick sitting on top of the snakes. Replace snakes with wires and stuff it into a clear plastic box and you have an idea of what it looked like. To his credit, he did cut some ventilation holes.
