I discovered that neither version of  MPLAB SIM seems to set the PIR1,TMR2IF
bit when timer2 = PR2. The timer resets properly, and regardless of 
PIE1,TMRIE
and the other interrupt enables, the PIR1 is never set and 
(consequencely) the
interrupt never occurs. 

I was able to manually determine my timing interval so I quit, but it 
appears to be
a hard problem on both versions. I don't have an earlier version 
installed everwhere.

Of course the ICD2 works flawlessly.
