Pin compatibility with PIC is nothing to get upset about. Binary compatibility is vaguely weird, IMO. Did Microchip and Scenix have an "agreement" of some kind? I don't recall hearing nearly the amount of microchip whining about the scenix parts that I would have expected if the instruction set was copied without permission (compared to the epic battles with Atmel, for instance...)
