i have found that google is not very good for "obscure" searches, probably in part due to the fact that their algorithm partially bases the ranking on how many other sites link to a site. i'd love to find a search engine that just searches for the search terms and doesn't rank them in this way. i often search for somewhat arcane/obscure knowledge, the kind that won't be widely linked to, which is usually why i'm using a search engine in the first place rather than just checking the obvious places for an answer. this is particularly a problem when some of the search terms have alternate common meanings, one gets hundreds of bad links for each good link and it takes too long to check them all out, or even the ones that aren't obviously about something else. crafting the "right" search terms can also be a problem, i've very slightly changed things before and come up with much better or worse results. if you use a lot of words google even seems to ignore some of them when finding hits for you. i've found many pages that totally lack the search terms i've specified, even in the cached version of the page. And I tell you this morning that he's in the White House because God put him there for a time such as this: Lt Gen William Boykin, speaking of G. W. Bush, New York Times, 17 October 2003 = God gave the savior to the German people. We have faith, deep and unshakeable faith, that he was sent to us by God to save Germany.
