hmm . . .   I haven't had any problems with it, it works well on old
tube amp pots.

But if that's true then I better try some of the Caig CaliKleen
cleaner/degreaser or DeoxIT.  Ruby Tubes / Magic Parts has it,
www.magicparts.com.
