All this talk about cheques, I must be living on a different planet! I haven't seen a cheque in maybe 10 years, and I wouldn't be surprised if no-one in my country has. When money arrives in my bank account it is just that: it has arrived! It either has arrived or it hasn't, no grey area at all. Occasionaly a bank will do something wrong and attempt to correct it later, but that's rare - almost newspaper front page stuff. For international money traffic I use mostly PayPal, which has so far - fingers crossed! - behaved the same way. Doesn't the 'greatest' country in the world have a simple and reliable way of inter-bank money transfer?
