Remember having fun with tapes that had them both on the same > edge :)) I used to know that, but that knowledge has receeded into the fog of time. I think the last time I used a 9 track mag tape was 1986. I still have the source code for a multi-player tankwar game on a tape, but there is no way to retrieve it, not that I would know what to do with all the Fortran anyway. A few years ago I got a call from some lawyer envolved in a patent fight about multi-player computer games. He was trying to counter sombody's patent from 1984, and was real interested when I told him I had one running in 1978 with a few hundred witnesses. That's when I realized that although I had the source code, there was no way to get at it anymore. Now I keep such things in mind when writing "long term" archives to any media. It seems you have to copy to new media every 10 years or so not because the bits go away, but because the ability to read them does. ***************************************************************** Embed Inc, embedded system specialists in Littleton Massachusetts (978) 742-9014, http://www.embedinc.com _______________________________________________ http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
