TTYL The problem with such an adapter is that you must add something like a max232 to get back to the TTL level and polarity required for a PIC, while at the same time you 'pay' for the same type of chip in the adapter itself! But this is a symptom of this modern world: I buy USB/serial converter cables for a price that is only a little higher that what I pay for a bare FT232BM chip. If I add all components required to get an FT232 to work, plus the cable and the max I end up somewhere between two and three times the price of the USB/serial converter.
