Hi all, When I first tried to introduce PICs to the company 5 years ago, I asked the local Microchip person to recommend a popular low cost MCU for me since we need to support our device up to 10 years or even longer and want the potential to get lower cost in the long run. The particular device used was PIC16C72A since another automotive electronics giant also was using it. Luckily I did not choose the similar ATMEL AVR part now already obsolete. But still we can no longer reduce the cost further since Microchip moves on to promote Flash based MCU. Even moving to Mask parts do not help since they are never good at mask parts. I am a bit curious what are the popular low cost MCUs used in the industrial application now or a few years down the road. Here are some wild guess. Please note that they may or may not be so popular for the consumer application or hobbyists. PIC10F200/202/204/206 PIC12F508/509 PIC16F684 PIC16F628A/16F819 PIC18F1220/1320 Any comments or suggestions?
