Hopefully the PIC tag is appropriate; that's part of my question. I bought the LED Light Show from All Electronics. It's quite nice, but cycles automatically through its different effects, I was hoping it was selectable. I decided to open the control box and see if I could replace it with my own. It's controlled by a chip with the Microchip logo and the part number "CF745-04/P". A search on the Microchip website turned up no matches and when I search google, I get a lot of pages that I don't have a character set for but seem to have this part number and 16C54 together. Is it comparable to a PIC16C54? It also says "9736 CAW". The 9736 sounds like a date code. I haven't drawn a schematic, but there's 8 driver circuits with a diode, resistor and a to-92 package with the marking "h sd 005 he r" on them. It's probably a house numbered transistor, but if anyone has a better idea, it would be helpful. Each driver circuit has a line out to the wire that goes to the LED chains, but there's only the 8 wires, no ground, so I can't tell how that works.
