Chiming into this thread *very* late, but I may be able to offer some assistance, since I was looking for something similar a couple years ago. What I needed was a PC-controllable radio, and purchased a D-Link PC USB FM Radio, took it apart and wired it directly to one of internal USB ports on the PC. But I discovered that it uses the TEA5757 chip and a low-end Cypress USB chip (in DIP packaging). Of course it includes all the passive and other components to make the radio operable, and those are ver small SMT components. Full size of the PCB is approx 2.25" x 1.9". If I wanted to make a simple PIC-controllable USB FM radio today, I get one of these radios, gut it, remove the Cypress chip (USB functionality not needed), and mount the board to my PIC project board accordingly. The TEA5757 datasheet shows how to control it. This radio has beed discontinued a while ago, but occasionally rears it's head on Ebay every so often. This is the one I am referring to... http://tinyurl.com/6vwsh It is made by Gemtek I believe and was sold under many different brands. Cheers, -Neil.
