Will I be a "newbie" every time I resubscribe? One of these days I should do this, myself. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mailman seems to have some strange habits: when some setting(s)(say address) is changed, mailman clears other settings to default. And the defaults are "full channels on". Potentially some day this could cause a real headache. Don't know about Yahoo or Hotmail but Gmail has one (among others) interesting feature =E2=80=93 filter based mail redirection (if I got it correctly). You can subscribe a Gmail account to all the list channels and then when needed redirect to your main e-mail account the channel you are interested in. =20 (Forgive me James for advertising Google as a personal search engine and archiver for PICList). Another great Gmail feature is =E2=80=93 "the hole thread on one page" =E2= =80=93 very nice indeed when you are to get quickly the context of a post. Personally, If I were asked, I'd say that the decisive reason why coming in of newbies is reducing is not well-discussed behavior of some list members, but rather three other reasons: 1. Having been un-Googlable since March 2003. 2. Appearance of MCHP's forum. 3. Overall tendency of a hobbyist world to shift to other architectures. Have no clue how to fix out 2. and 3. But with the spam due to being Googlable we can fight by just not showing addresses at all. (Well, I promised to behave nicely: I don't cite (in)appropriate saying on this occasion) Regards, Mike. --- PS. Sorry for pure [OT] input these weeks. _______________________________________________ http://www.piclist.com View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
