Yup, hence the name "surface mount". Actually, if this is your first go I'd strongly suggest starting with a SLIGHTLY easier package, a SO-8 is pretty easy to do, and great for a starter to practise on. But if you feel up to the challenge and if you're willing to put enough time into it TSSOP isn't beyond anyone. Good luck!
