I have been running both Windows 2000 and Windows XP at home and I simply cannot remember when I last had a crash that actually lost me work, and I don't think I've ever had a blue screen on those systems. OTOH in my experiments with Linux I managed to lock up my PC on a regular basis, and never actually got much done as I spent most of my time trying to learn new tools. As always horses for courses, and how you use a product has a great bearing on it's reliability.
