No, the original poster specifically said "SPEND A LOT OF MONEY" to
reduce product lifetime.  I don't have any problem believing that
companies don't spend enough money to ensure long life, but that's a
somewhat different thing.

OTOH, you have those HP (end etc) printer cartridges...
