> We could be so much more effective if we were able to work towards > collective success goals, but that's not wired in our brains... :) As this is on PIC tag I'll reply on same. If anyone has anything major to say in reply it may be wise to change the tag to OT. While we may not be wired for success goals as detailed as co-operating to delay obsolescence, most of human "civilisation" IS the result of collective co-operation for the purpose of optimising mutual outcomes. The "laws" which we find are (largely) embedded in us, regardless of source, we tend to label "common sense". It is, after all, 'only obvious' to co-operate in ways which are reflected in "laws" regulating theft, sexual predation, lying, sharing in payment for core facilities and more. The observation that my freedom can only extend to the point where it impinges on your similar freedom is 'common sense'. The "golden suggestion" (in either of its two major forms) is only 'common sense'. And much more. It's easy to miss what we DO have wired into when we look at what isn't. Those who dwell in a godless universe should marvel at the degree of hardwiring that IS built in to (almost?) all of us. Those who dwell in other universes may marvel for different reasons :-) Russell McMahon _______________________________________________ http://www.piclist.com View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
