Arguably, "how I wish them to do to me" does not involve major sacrifices to them; I don't want to be pushed from in front of car if it means the pusher gets killed instead. Maybe the golden suggestion becomes complicated when you allow it to recurse... There are many cases where the cost is near zero. It does not cost me anything to say 'thank you' when someone is helpful. It is how I would like to be treated. And many people just don't bother...
