If they are driving while impaired, be it alcohol, drugs, fatigue, or making stupid choices, they ARE killing intentionally since it is only by chance that they don't kill. > In the absence of antilock brakes know how to pulse brake. No. Know how to threshold brake. Pumping the brakes went out in the '70s. Brake hard enough to just start loosing grip, then back off a bit. Practice on unused road until it becomes reflexive. You'll live longer and having the reflex could save your life. ABS doesn't save lives if people drive more recklessly because they believe ABS will save them. The laws of physics don't change just because your vehicle has ABS. > Know how to steer under HEAVY braking. Absolutely. One can often save one's hide by steering while braking to avoid the obstacle. Again. Practice when and where you can until you don't have to think about it. It's worth it. Having this skill has saved me at least 3 times now. Speed doesn't kill. INAPPROPRIATE speed does. What is safe on a race track is certainly UNsafe in residential streets. If you can't stop without a collision, you WERE driving too fast or were not paying attention to your environment.
