Along this same line, I have had samples of Pulse Engineering coils from the
UK agent, even though I specifically said on the phone to them that I was
not likely to be getting to a point of a manufacturable product.
http://www.pulseeng.com/ I don't know how the likes of Coilcraft are on
this.

Also had a couple of pressure sensors from BFI Optilas after speaking to the
rep on the phone, but did get the impression that it wasn't the normal thing
to do, unless there was a likely manufacturable product at the end of it.

In short, if you see something advertised that believe you can make use of,
especially in a University situation, it is worth a phone call or email, at
worst they can say no, at best you could have some samples of possibly
exotic devices for nothing.
