Antique stores ARE a possibility; just cause something is labeled 
antique
doesn't necessarily mean it's more expensive that equivalent new 
furniture.

Do you have an Ikea store near you?  A lot of their stuff is pretty neat
looking, in a modern sort of way, and it tends to be very reasonably
priced...  You just have to figure out whether an electronics lab is
more like a kitchen, office, or media center :-)
