Further back than that.  It's the same format used in the pre-tcp
days, more or less.  That would have been RFC733.TXT

Eh.  We added the X-topics field (?), and it turns out that both the 
topic
passed in and the whole field have newlines at the end.  So you get an
extra newline that breaks off the headers from the text..

      fprintf(out, "X-topics: %s\n", "[OT]\n");
or equivilent.  Obvious :-)

Interestingly, My mac's mail.app isn't having any problems with the
discontiguous headers.  Both display and sorting into the "Piclist"
(which I have based on "to:" field) are working fine.  I wonder if
that's a feature, or a bug?
