All messages that exhibit the problem have > this blank line in front of the subject line in common! The first blank line has been the demarcation between an email's header portion and the body portion for decades. As far back as August 13, 1982 -- RFC 822, Standard For The Format Of ARPA Internet Text Messages -- said 3.1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION A message consists of header fields and, optionally, a body. The body is simply a sequence of lines containing ASCII characters. It is separated from the headers by a null line (i.e., a line with nothing preceding the CRLF). So now someone needs to find out why null lines are being arbitrarily inserted in the header portion of messages.
