A thought to stir some more thoughts ... The Canon i865/i965 and the new lower cost PIXMA i3000 and i4000 all have direct to CD (no label) printing adaptors. These also allow printing to 8 cm (sorry, 80 mm :-) ) and business card size CDRs. This facility should allow direct printing to PCBs with a suitable adaptor, and it seems probable that a larger board size should be able to be accomodated. Also phone cards and similar fwiw. if the ink is suitable as a n etch resist (as it should be) it may usher in a new era. Also, component references and (just possibly) solder masks should be possible. The i4000 is not yet available in NZ but I will probably wait for them to appear as they seem to offer good performance for the money. As well as the CD printing facility they have duplexing (a must-have for me) as standard .
