I know there are a lot of cyclists on this list, and thought I'd throw this out. May also apply to users of other round style locks (pay phones, vending machines, gambling machines, etc). Most (if not all) bike locks using a round key (such as most U Locks) can be opened with a Bic pen. Remove the end cap and jam the barrel of the pen over the center pin of the lock - this may take some force - then rotate the pen barrel while jiggling the entire assembly.
