I've got the same topics too. All Tags were "Off" before and 
after the transferring. But posts of all tags started to flood
my mailbox nevertheless with the advent of Mailman. Since the
transferring form listserver to Mailman is supposed to get 
common, I think, this bug should be checked out.

Yes, Russell, my mother was Russian, but Crimea is in Ukraine. 
And victims were not mostly Russian, they were multi-ethnic, 
probably mostly Ossetins. Actually my reaction would be the
same regardless of where on the Earth the school were placed on, 
Auckland, San-Diego or Shanghai. 
The post wasn't against you or anybody on the list. In fact
I even don't know why I felt I should write that.
