Ah, the old "inappropriate resolution" problem! :-) This tends to happen with digital displays - with a needle readout gauge there's always the built in resolution diluters of the width of the needle and the markings, and parallax. Putting a magnifying glass over the fuel gauge so you can see *exactly* when it's empty isn't something any sane manufacturer would do... I have a GPS that gives (among other things) altitude to a resolution of 1ft. The best horizontal accuracy it has ever claimed is 23ft, and vertical accuracy is generally no better than half as good, so it's showing a figure to 1ft resolution that has a possible error getting on for 50ft!
