Query from a friend. Any suggestions? ______________________________ Are you aware of any USB to UART bridge device which does not require it's own proprietary drivers - i.e. which just uses a default driver provided in WinXP (say). Modern USB Flash drives work like this but I can't seem to find a USB-UART bridge which does. My reason for asking is that if you design in a device which requires a proprietary driver you are then at the mercy of the supplier of that driver for future operating system support. If they decide that the part is obsolete and decide to no longer make it there is probably little incentive for them to provide a driver for the next incarnation of Windows (or Linux, or whatever). If you have zillions of customers with products based on that device then it suddenly becomes unusable when they upgrade to the next OS. Much better if your device just uses a standard OS driver since there is then a reasonable likelihood that the vendor of the OS will continue to provide support. _______________________________________________ http://www.piclist.com View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
