MIT is closing its list server at mitvma.mit.edu. All lists hosted on that server (including the PICList) are being migrated to mailman.mit.edu. We are about to attempt to automatically transfer all accounts from the one to the other. Dan Smith (did you know he is a list admin now?) has written some spiffy batch script thing that should preserve all the settings (e.g. people who are on digest will continue to get digests, etc...) The list server has a web interface (JOY!) and will allow you to control your settings there rather than only via email as before. http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist Also, it would appear that our topic tagging will remain, but (JOY!) the colon on the end will no longer be necessary, so we may see a decrease in the number of screwed up subject lines due to Outhouse. No action should be required on your part, other than to change what ever procmail filters, sorting systems and Outhouse rules you have set up. On the other hand, life as we know it could end and absolute chaos reign. You never know with these things; right network admins? Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. Anyone who has ever switched a development server live or taken a new network into production knows that at some point you just offer up a quick prayer, kiss your butt one last time and flip the switch.
