You'd have to look at individual lighthouses to determine how their timing is derived (for example DGPS or mains cycles) for not ony the flash but also radio beacons. My guess would be some sort of PLC standard that takes full advantage of DGPS timing. After all, if you're putting time and money into modernising a lighthouse network you'd want it state-of-the-art So, that leaves Aslam with a choice - build as it probably is, with all the LED timings in synch (but not necessarily flashing in chorus - a little boring) by having a common line between the PICs or have it slightly "drifty", perhaps how it could have been pre-GPS.
