No.  It is a request/response "protocol" like normal http.  More accurately I would describe your implementation as a subset of soap/xmlhttp, you probably won't be doing things like validating the incoming xml for well-formedness, raising soap exceptions, etc.  What you described about spammers pop/ups doesn't make sense to me, it is usually through delays in scripts that they get popups to appear.  Otherwise one would be seeing popups just by being connected to the internet.
