For whatever it's worth, here are my thoughts on the Oshonsoft IDE package. I really like this software. It is a great learning tool and provides excellent value for the money. The BASIC compiler is handy for knocking out a quick one-off project or proving a concept. It works as advertised, but implements only a very limited subset of the language. There are some other issues. I much prefer the way MPLAB highlights the line of code being executed during program simulation. This product offers the same feature but in a more awkward implementation using the .LST file. Also, the assembler is missing some key Microchip directives so code can't easily be moved between the two environments. You have to write for Oshonsoft or MPLAB. It also doesn't support the syntax "clrf TRISB ^ 0x80" which I use in MPLAB to suppress bank warning messages. (Thanks, Myke P.) The editor could use some work to ensure that cursor movement, text deletion, etc work as you would expect. But there are many excellent features too. These include support of serial I/O (using hardware and bit-banging), LCD displays, 7 segment LEDs, A/D, Timers (!) and many other devices and peripherals. Overall, this is an great tool (toolS, actually) . So don't take these comments to suggest that people not buy it. On the contrary, it is an excellent value. Most importantly, the author, Vladimir Soso is constantly upgrading the product and adding additional functionality. He generally responds quickly to messages and is a pleasure to deal with. Andrew P.S. I hope that you find these free opinions to be worth every penny. ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number Voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag -- http://www.piclist.com#nomail Going offline?
