A couple of weeks ago I wrote:

I came up with 2N5400 & 2N5401.  These are similar to the 2n4403 and cost
marginally more: Can $0.04 in hundreds for 2n5401 vs Can $0.03 for the
2n4403 (Arrow Electronics).

Specs for those interested: (On-semi)

2n5400:  Vceo 120V   Vebo 5V   Ic 600mA   Hfe 60 - 200   Ft 100 MHz
2n5401:  Vceo 150V   Vebo 5V   Ic 600mA   Hfe 60 - 200   Ft 100 MHz

compared to:
2n4403:  Vceo 40V    Vebo 5V   Ic 600mA   Hfe 100 - 300   Ft 200 MHz

Gain was less than initially desired but I worked around it.
